Supreme Court Judge and President’s Counsel Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake has been named as the next chief justice by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
She will become the 33rd chief justice of Sri Lanka and the first woman to hold the top judicial office.
Being a member of the Judicial Services Commission, she had served in the capacity of acting chief justice on several occasions.
She was appointed a Supreme Court Judge in 1996.
